Varying venues, programming, and objectives mean our quarterly GuerillaLIVE launch events are inherently unpredictable entities. So there's no way we could have safely predicted the smashing success that was GuerillaLIVE 22: Sin+Innocence held at The Loft salon on Saturday night.

The venue—5,000 square feet of the newly explanded salon at Gladstone and Elgin—was breathtaking and filled with beautiful people with beautiful hairstyles. A number of these people were local models participating in the Schad “couples” fashion show staged by Guerilla's new fashion columnist Tracie LeBlanc and Amelia Marino from Schad.

But the event was not all glam. A driving set of heavy metal from Muffler Crunch kept everyone rivetted, followed by Dr. Lee's Percussion ensemble, another musical sensation with an Afro-funk vibe that had people dancing in the aisles.

Between these main events, DJ Chris International maintained a smooth musical atmosphere with an assortment of digital and analog beats, including some dusted-off 45s! Now there's a blast from the past.

Catering donations from Shafali Kitchen, Savana Café, and Umi Café were gobbled up by the happy crowd, which probably numbered close to 1,000 strong over the course of the night. Several comments from attendees suggested that the event took on an “out of Ottawa” atmosphere, like something that might happen in Toronto or New York. Do you see what is possible here, people?

All told, the event was a fitting way to lauch the biggest-ever issue of Guerilla and help The Loft celebrate the biggest salon space in Ottawa. Huge thanks to our event co-hosts Bruno Racine and Paul Valetta from The Loft and to everyone who attended, volunteered, and contributed.
