Tuesday, Oct. 17

Halloween approaches—my favorite time of year. So today I was in the mood to scare myself with a viewing of new work by photo-based artist Karina Kraenzle. Her show, called Makeovers, opened at La Petite Mort Gallery on October 6 and runs until November 2. While Kraenzle asserts in her artist statement that the show is about lost identity and feminine beauty, for some reason the face-obliterating aspect (a favorite device for this artist) is both captivating and terrifying for me. I suppose I'll have to visit a shrink to find out why.

ImageIncidentally, La Petite Mort is having a Halloween party on the big night itself: Tuesday, October 31. For those who can brave the Tuesday night scheduling, I suspect you'll be in for a chillingly good time.
